Google releases its new game streaming service at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Dubbed as Stadia, this new game streaming service aims to allow users to stream AAA games directly from Google servers without requiring any special hardware.
That means if it functions as advertised, you will no longer be required to buy an expensive console. Other companies like Sony and Nvidia have launched their respective game streaming services in the past, however, none of them have been successful.
Google Stadia is the first game streaming service that seems to show some real potential. In this article, we will take a more detailed look at Google Stadia and tell you everything you need to know about this new game streaming service.
What is Google Stadia?
As mentioned above, Google Stadia is a new game streaming service from Google, which once implemented will allow Google to stream live (stream) game to player. That means, as a gamer you don’t have to buy expensive hardware to play AAA games.
Another good thing about Google Stadia is that it doesn’t require you to download games. This is a big upgrade where Google offers other Gaming services. After you select the game, you just need to press the play button and the game will start.
Google Stadia Streaming Quality
Google Stadia promises a level of quality that you can only get with the most powerful laptops you can find on the market. Depending on your network speed, you’ll be able to stream games at 1080p 60 fps or 4K HDR 60 fps. The streaming service that allows you to stream games at 60 fps in 4K HDR is simply unbelievable. So, if you are worried that you have to stream a game at a lower quality so that it can be played or not, Google Stadia will blow your mind.
Terms of Using Google Stadia
As Kabar Games said, Google Stadia does not require you to purchase any additional hardware components. You can play it on your existing Pixel smartphone or Chromecast Ultra device. If you don’t have a Pixel or Chromecast Ultra, you can stream games directly to the system using Google Chrome Browser.
The only thing you need is a high-speed internet connection. As of now, Google Stadia will only work using WiFi connections with speeds above 25 Mbps. Google has said that they will make Stadia compatible with future 5G mobile networks.
Google Stadia continuity
In the keynote presentation at GDC, one of the main points Google made was about continuity. According to Google, there are more than 2 billion people worldwide who either play games or like to watch recorded games. However, game developers still have difficulty reaching the audience due to the audience’s lack of ability to find or the many obstacles they have to overcome to play the game.
Google wants to solve this problem by allowing users to not only find games, but also access them instantly without facing any obstacles. Say, you watched a trailer for a new game that you liked and wanted to play. Right now, you have to see if the game is available on your console or not, then you have to buy it from the store and then wait for hours to download and install before you can play.
With Google Stadia, players don’t have to go through that sort of thing. Once they see the game trailer on YouTube, they will find a simple “Play Now” button. Clicking on that button will immediately stream the game. With a good internet connection (> 25Mbps), AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will start streaming and can be played in five seconds. Playing games now can be that simple.
But that’s not all. You can also stream games not only on Chrome on your PC, but also on smartphones, TVs, tablets, Chromebooks, and more. In addition, you can switch between devices without losing progress in your game. Imagine playing Assassin’s Creed on your TV and then continuing it on your smartphone if someone wants to watch TV.
Do You Need a Special Stadia Controller?
As we know, with its online streaming project, Google is also launching its own Google Stadia controller. Many people may assume that you need to buy a controller to stream games. But Google Stadia lets you play games using your own controller and keyboard and mouse. You don’t need to buy a Google Stadia controller to stream games.
Even so, the Google Stadia Controller will enhance your game streaming experience if you buy it. The biggest advantage of using the Google Stadia controller is that it will connect directly to the Google Data Center via WiFi. This means that your game input doesn’t have to go through your system and will be sent directly to Google’s servers so latency can be lower.
The Stadia controller is also equipped with two additional buttons. The first is the record button which will allow you to record and stream your game instantly. Since the recording will be stored on Google servers, you don’t have to worry about it disturbing the quality of your game. The second button is the Google Assistant button which will allow you to access the in-game help and controls menu using only your voice.
Has Multi-Player Capability
Google Stadia will also improve multiplayer games (multi-player). Either you want to play sports games like FIFA 19 or battle royale games like Apex Legends. Stadia will allow users to engage in multiplayer environments by enabling low latency play.
Since the game client and multiplayer server will be hosted on the same Google Data Center, there will be no latency even when hundreds of people join the game. Google will also enable cross-platform compatibility and there will be no cheating or game hacking.
Google is also bringing in a new “Stream Connect” feature that will allow game developers to push the boundaries of co-op gaming. Currently, co-op games are rare because running two displays of the same game will be burdensome to the system. This means developers have to reduce the quality of each display to make it easier for the hardware to handle it. However, it resulted in lower graphics quality which disappointed players.
With Stream Connect, developers don’t have to worry about reducing the quality of their games as each display will be supported by a separate Stadia. Developers will be able to add as many views as they want without sacrificing the quality of their games.
Has Crowd Play Feature
The last big feature that Google Stadia has to offer is called “Crowd Play” and is aimed at gaming YouTubers. If you’re a YouTube game streamer and want to engage with your community, one of the best ways to do this is to let your audience play with you. On the other hand, if you like watching streaming game recordings, wouldn’t it be great if you could play with your favorite YouTube streamer?
Well, YouTube Stadia will allow streamers and viewers to play games together. When streaming games, streamers can create games using Google Stadia where followers can register and wait for their chance to play with them. If it’s implemented properly, this feature can be great for streamers looking to create a large and fun community.
As of now, Google Stadia has launched two big games. The first is “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” and the second is “Doom Eternal” which is the latest game in the Doom series. While this may seem like a small list, if Google Stadia can deliver on its promises on these top AAA games that require the best and latest hardware to run, then soon other games will start offering theirs too. Google believes that more games will be released alongside Google Stadia when it becomes publicly available.
Price and Availability of Stadia
The only thing that isn’t clear about Google Stadia is its price and availability. Google says that the service will be available sometime in 2019. There is no exact date and no pricing details are available. When launched, this service will be available in the US, Canada, UK and most other European countries. We understand that this is a revolutionary technology and it will take some time to fix it. We just hope that every time it launches, it will at least be nearly as good as they claim to be.
Are you looking forward to it?
Google Stadia is quite revolutionary and we are very excited about it. We don’t know how much of what Google promises to deliver, but we’re all looking forward to it. The promise to instantly stream games and move seamlessly from one device to another is something Kabar Games will be willing to stand in line for. How do you feel and feel about Google Stadia?
